Realistic Environment-Library
Annie Klein

This piece was submitted as the second of four projects for the Sound Design course at UVa. The second project was creating a realistic sound environment. The purpose of this assignment was to create a realistic soundscape using pre-recorded sounds and mix them, so that the listener, when using headphones, feels as though they are immersed in that environment. The environment I recreated was a library. I began by laying down a medium/large room tone, and layered multiple sounds on top of this. Sounds include typing on a keyboard, flipping through a book, listening to music through headphones, pulling out a chair, opening a backpack, and a printer. All sounds must be properly mixed in order to create a realistic environment.
